Case Study

 The TV show I selected was the opening scene of Smallville, the first episode called the “Pilot”. The genre is Sci- Fi and action. The first glimpse of the first minute which instantly is a flashback from October 1989 which is a huge part of the whole series. The visual effect that was used was CGI to portray the meteor shower that is about to occur in 1989. The cuts in the first 5 minutes were 61 including the CGI portion. They used a transition device called cutting, montage, crosscutting, match cut, and dissolve throughout the whole 5 five minutes played. In Smallville the technical aspects shape the story, themes, and emotion. The opening scene was a flashback which is an editing device which shapes the whole story and how it began. They use dramatic effects to make the audience feel excited and curious, while also showing us that Clark is special and has a big journey ahead. The music, camera shots, and fast editing all help tell the story of how Clark came to Earth and how his life is about to change.  


The visual effect technique is CGI in the Smallville illustrates Clark's otherworldly origins and the epic story they are trying to tell. 


The editing technique used is flashback, creating a dramatic, mysterious tone and setting a foundation for the primary story.


The editing technique is montage showing how he was discover and how Clark deals his alien origin and Earthly life, highlight the themes of destiny and dual identity to set the stage for his quest for self-discovery.



The technique is cross- cutting foreshadowing the Kent family's role in Clark’s teachings and future.


The technique is cutting in this scene is emotional, discovering the future villain which bring the whole storyline together.

 

The technique is dissolve, causing an emotional transition between the chaos of his arrival and the calmness of human care.

Production process: Table of contents

  My partner and I both scheduled a day of the week for us to take photos for our table of contents. We both had ideas of what poses and props we can use to make these photos look presentable and match our theme. We used props like hair rollers, face masks, books, nail filer, and phones to create these photos. We took it on a digital camera to make it more of a teen girl effect. We first took turns to put hair rollers in each others hair for the page in our magazine about hair styles then started posing, we took a bunch and chose the ones that turned out good. Then we started putting face masks on and took a bunch of photos as well to create photos for the skincare section in our magazine. For the personality quiz we did not know what we should do so, we are just combining two summer and winter photos we already have. We took behind the scenes photos to capture the chaos it took to create these photos.

#1 Winter Break Blog Post

  My partner and I discussed our magazine theme and decided to go with how teen girls get through the natural seasons which will be titled, "Seasonal Survival Guide for Teen Girls". We discussed how we want to focus on the two big seasons, winter and summer. We decided to look on Canva and Pinterest to see ideas of our format and how we want to discuss our topic. These two images caught my eye for the winter and summer cover that I can combined into one using my photos. I was thinking since we are using two season that we can split the cover page in two photos one on the top left and one on the bottom right with words like " The Art of Winter" and "The Art of Summer " in the spaces between. My partner was also thinking about a split screen effect. We started looking at ideas.
