The  visual effect that was used was CGI to portray the meteor shower that is about to occur in 1989 . The cuts in the first 5 minutes were 61 including the CGI portion . They used a transition device called cutting , montage, crosscutting, match cut, and dissolve throughout the whole 5 five minutes played.
